As part of the Abzas Media case, the preventive measure in the form of arrest has been extended for Hafiz Babali and Ulvi Hasanli, oxu.az reports. The corresponding decision was made at a hearing in the Khatai District Court of Baku. According to the decision, their arrest period was extended for another 3 months.

H. Babali and U. Hasanli were detained last year. Later, a preventive measure in the form of arrest was chosen for them.

They were charged under Article 206.3.2 (smuggling committed by a group of persons by prior agreement) of the Criminal Code of Azerbaijan.

Since its establishment in 2020, the Department of Non-Criminal Proceedings of the Prosecutor General’s Office has reviewed more than 940 criminal cases. As a result of reviewing the materials over 4 years, 530 criminal cases were initiated, AZERTAC reports, with reference to the head of the Department of Non-Criminal Proceedings of the Prosecutor General’s Office Elnur Musayev, who told this during his speech at the international conference “Law and Climate” held in Baku on the topic “The Role of the Fight against Environmental Crime in Preventing Climate Change: National Context”. E. Musayev said that the amount of damage in these criminal cases amounted to 53 million manats.

Employees of the Mingachevir city police department detained 35-year-old Vusal Khalilov, suspected of fraud, oxu.az reports with reference to the Sheki regional group of the press service of the Ministry of Internal Affairs.

It was noted that V. Khalilov abused the trust of the victims and appropriated their large and small cattle. By doing so, he caused material damage to 8 people in the amount of 300,000 manats. The detainee stated that he sold the animals cheaper than their cost.

By the court’s decision, a preventive measure in the form of arrest was chosen for V. Khalilov, the investigation is ongoing.

A sentence has been passed on Rashad Asadzade, accused of attempted murder of his ex-wife by using a firearm, oxu.az reports. The sentence was announced during a session of the Baku Court of Grave Crimes chaired by Judge Azer Taghiyev.

According to the sentence, the defendant was sentenced to 15 years and 6 months in prison. At the last session, prosecutor Tural Yagubov asked to sentence R. Asadzade to 17 years in prison.

R. Asadzade was charged under Articles 29, 120.2.2 (attempted premeditated murder for hooligan motives), 228.1 (illegal acquisition, storage, transportation of firearms) and 229.1 (illegal manufacture of firearms, components for them, ammunition, explosives or explosive devices, as well as repair of firearms) of the Criminal Code of the Azerbaijan Republic.
