Employees of the Main Customs Administration for Air Transport of the State Customs Committee (SCC) prevented an attempt to smuggle more than 25 kg of silver into the country, minval.az reports with reference to the SCC. Thus, during the inspection of the luggage of an Azerbaijani citizen, a passenger on the Baku-Istanbul flight, customs officers found 25 kg 56 g of silver.
An investigation is underway into the fact.
An appeal has been filed against the judgement against Sadig Hajiyev, who worked as the Chief of the Financial Service of the Military Police Department and several military units of the Defense Ministry, APA reports. At the trial chaired by Judge Farid Eyyubov in the Baku Court of Appeal, the decision of the Baku Military Court was upheld.
The Baku Military Court sentenced Sadig Hajiyev to 11 years in prison. He is accused of embezzlement of 1.5 million manats. He is charged under Article 179.4 of the Criminal Code of Azerbaijan (embezzlement on an especially large scale).
The investigation into the fire at the Republican Perinatal Center, in which 7 newborns died and 4 more were injured, has been completed, Report informs citing the press service of the Prosecutor General’s Office. On September 9, the case was sent to the Baku Court of Grave Crimes.
According to the prosecutor’s office, the damage caused by the fire amounted to 361 thousand manats.
This incident occurred on January 9, 2024, when a criminal case was initiated. During the preliminary investigation conducted by the Investigation Department of the Prosecutor General’s Office, reasonable suspicions arose that after the appointment of Mehriban Abasguliyeva as director of the Center on December 27, 2022, the number of patients admitted to the center doubled. All this led to an additional load on the center’s electrical network and the subsequent fire.
It was also established that Abaskulieva, the head of the department, Hamlet Mustafayev, and the head of auxiliary services, Elnur Akhmedli, did not eliminate the violations, despite the relevant instructions of the Ministry of Emergency Situations.
Abasguliyeva was charged under Articles 308.2 and 225.3 of the Criminal Code, Mustafayev and Akhmedli – under Article 225.3.
A sentence was read out in the Baku Military Court to the former head of the Khachmaz District Department of the State Service for Mobilization and Conscription for Military Service Rahim Agayev, accused of accepting a bribe, Report informs. At the hearing chaired by Judge Rafig Abbasov, the accused was sentenced to 8 years and 6 months in prison.
The prosecution asked to sentence Agayev to 9 years and 6 months in prison.
Rakhim Agayev was detained by employees of the Main Department for Combating Corruption under the Prosecutor General. He was charged under Articles 311.3.3 (repeated acceptance of a large bribe) and 308.2 (abuse of office) of the Criminal Code of the Azerbaijan Republic.
