The prison term of Elvin H. (born in 1983), who is serving his sentence in correctional facility No. 9 in the Khazar district of Baku, has been extended, oxu.az reports. The prison term of the man, who was sentenced in 2022 to 7 years and 6 months for fraud, has been extended by 6 months – to 8 years. The corresponding sentence was handed down by the Yasamal District Court.

It turned out that Elvin, who previously worked in law enforcement, learned that his cellmate named Sahib had filed a petition for pardon. He convinced the latter that he would help him get out of prison and under this pretext received 6,000 manats from the cellmate. The money was transferred by Sahib’s relatives to the cards indicated by Elvin.

However, Elvin’s deception was later revealed and a new criminal case was opened against him for fraud.

A hearing has begun in the Baku Court of Appeal on the appeal against the verdict of blogger Jamil Guliyev, who is accused of blackmailing and extorting women, oxu.az reports. During the trial chaired by Judge Zamin Ibrahimov, the defendant’s personal data was clarified. The next court hearing is scheduled for November 21.

J. Guliyev was found guilty under three counts of Article 182 (extortion) of the Criminal Code of the Republic of Azerbaijan. The defendant blackmailed women whom he met on social networks or in other ways, and then entered into relationships with them. He filmed what was happening during dates and then used the video as incriminating evidence. He extorted money from the deceived women, threatening to distribute compromising photos and disgrace them if they refused. In this way, he took 6,800 manat from one of the victims and 2,400 from the other. One of the injured women turned out to be a famous model.

According to the court verdict of October 14, J. Guliyev was sentenced to imprisonment for 6 years.
