A former employee of the Ministry of Justice of Azerbaijan has been brought to criminal responsibility, oxu.az reports. Aykhan Nasrulla oglu Novruzov, who worked as an executive official in one of the district executive departments, is accused of accepting bribes and fraud.

Based on the information received about illegal actions, an investigation was conducted at the Main Department for Combating Corruption under the Prosecutor General.

A. Novruzov was charged with bribery and fraud. A preventive measure in the form of placing him under house arrest pending trial was chosen against him.

The trial on this case is expected to begin in the coming days.

The Ministry of Internal Affairs (MIA) has issued a warning about artificial intelligence. As reported by APA, the information states:

“Cyberattacks have become more frequent recently. The use of unreliable artificial intelligence solutions can lead to the transfer of data to third parties, which, in turn, can facilitate attacks by cybercriminals. The transfer of confidential information related to your organization when using artificial intelligence can also lead to the same consequences.

Given the above, we once again urge citizens to be careful and not to transfer their personal data to third parties when using artificial intelligence services.”

The criminal trial of Elshan Kerimov, accused of public calls for violent seizure of power, has ended, oxu.az reports. The hearing was held in the Baku Court of Grave Crimes under the chairmanship of Judge Sabuhi Huseynov.

The prosecutor requested 7 years and 6 months of imprisonment for E. Kerimov. Lawyer Zibeyda Sadigova, who delivered a defense speech, asked for a lenient guilty verdict. By the court’s decision, Elshan Kerimov was sentenced to 6 years in prison.

It should be noted that E. Kerimov was detained on April 17, 2024 in the village of Rustamli, Yevlakh district. The Investigative Department of the Prosecutor General’s Office opened a criminal case against him under Article 281.1 (public calls for the violent seizure of power, violent retention of power, or violent change of the constitutional order, or violation of the territorial integrity of the Republic of Azerbaijan (AR), as well as dissemination of materials of such content) of the Criminal Code of the AR. On April 19, the Binagadi District Court chose a preventive measure in the form of arrest for a period of three months.

A trial on the criminal case against the head of SalamNews news agency and Interaz TV channel Matlab Bagirov was held in the Baku Court of Grave Crimes, oxu.az reports. At the trial chaired by Judge Leyla Askerova-Mammadova, the accused testified. According to him, he has been living outside the country since 2003 and is a citizen of not only Azerbaijan, but also Russia.

The next court hearing is scheduled for February 10.

Matlab Bagirov, known as Haji Matlab, was arrested on January 30, 2023.

The State Tax Service under the Ministry of Economy of Azerbaijan was recognized as the injured party in the criminal case. Matlab Bagirov was charged under Articles 162-1.1 (involving a significant number of workers to perform any work/services without the employment agreement/contract coming into legal force), 167-3.1 (production, storage or distribution of religious extremist materials), 193.2.2 (false entrepreneurship committed with the receipt of income on a large scale), 193-1.3.2 (legalization of property obtained by criminal means committed on a large scale) of the Criminal Code of the Republic of Azerbaijan.

Employees of the Main Directorate for Combating Organized Crime exposed members of a drug network in the Imishli district. This was reported to Report by the Ministry of Internal Affairs.

During the events, previously convicted 41-year-old Elshan Aliyev and 32-year-old Tarlan Bagirov were detained. 62 kg of marijuana enriched with psychotropic substances were found in their car and at their place of residence.

Employees of the Main Directorate also detained 39-year-old Jeyhun Ismailov and 29-year-old Rashad Mammadli, suspected of drug trafficking. During personal searches and searches of their homes, 18 kg of marijuana, heroin, methamphetamine and methadone were found.

The detainees stated in their testimony that they purchased the drugs for the purpose of sale.

Criminal cases have been initiated on the facts, and a preventive measure in the form of arrest has been chosen for them. Efforts are ongoing to detain other individuals who acted in collusion with the above-mentioned individuals.
