MFA: Establishment of Lachin border checkpoint is a sovereign right of Azerbaijan

Receiving the new Ambassador of the Russian Federation to the Republic of Azerbaijan, Mikhail Yevdokimov, Azerbaijani Foreign Minister Jeyhun Bayramov said that “statements that a “tense humanitarian situation” has allegedly developed in the region due to the activities of the Lachin border checkpoint distort reality,” APA reports.

In contrast to the tripartite statement, to which Russia was also a party for a long time, the facts of illegal activities carried out using the Lachin road, the transportation of military cargo and mines from Armenia to the territory of Azerbaijan were mentioned. It was noted that the establishment of the Lachin border checkpoint by the Azerbaijani side is its sovereign right, aimed at preventing illegal activities, as well as ensuring transparency. However, it was noted that the Armenian side committed sabotage against the checkpoint on June 15 and early July. The Azerbaijani side, however, created conditions for the passage of Armenian residents through this point. At the same time, it was noted that it is possible to use the Agdam-Khankendi road to meet the needs of the Armenian residents of Azerbaijan.
