Editor-in-Chief arrested
The editor-in-chief of the Hürriyyət newspaper has been arrested in Azerbaijan, oxu.az reports citing the press service of the Prosecutor General’s Office.
It is noted that the Office of Extra-Criminal Proceedings conducted an investigation into the fact that Vugar Mammadov and Elnur Mammadov, the editor-in-chief of the Hürriyyət newspaper, posted information prohibited for distribution on Internet resources, which is a violation of the requirements of the law of the Republic of Azerbaijan “On Information, Informatization and Information Protection”.
In connection with the identified offense against both persons, proceedings were initiated under Article 388-1.1.1 of the Code of Administrative Offenses (Placing information in an information resource or information and telecommunication network, the dissemination of which is prohibited by the Law of the Republic of Azerbaijan “On information, informatization and protection of information”).
The collected materials were sent to the court for consideration. By the decision of the court, V. Mammadov and E. Mammadov were administratively arrested for a period of one month.
