Drugs worth AZN 32 million seized from illicit trafficking in Azerbaijan

The Main Directorate for Combating Drugs of the Ministry of Internal Affairs (MIA) over the past 45 days seized 400 kg of drugs from illegal circulation, the value of which on the “black market” is estimated at 32 million manat, Report informs citing the press service of the Ministry of Internal Affairs.

Over the past 45 days, a number of operations have been carried out in Baku and the regions against members of an organized criminal group involved in drug smuggling from Iran to Azerbaijan, as well as drug dealers inside the country. During the operation, members of an organized criminal group were detained. 67 kg of narcotic drugs and psychotropic substances, including 20 kg of heroin, 29 kg of marijuana, 10 kg of opium and 8 kg of methamphetamine, were found and confiscated from these persons.

During this period, as a result of the operations carried out, 66 people were detained, involved in drug trafficking in the country.

On the facts, criminal cases were initiated under the relevant articles of the Criminal Code of the Republic of Azerbaijan, and a measure of restraint in the form of detention was taken against the detainees.
