Trial begins for coach accused of killing 7-year-old boy

The trial of coach Mehman Khalilov, accused of causing injuries to a seven-year-old child, which caused his death, began in Sumgayit, APA reports. A preparatory meeting was held at the Sumgayit Grave Crimes Court chaired by Judge Fahmin Humbatov.

At the preparatory meeting, the personal data of the accused were clarified and preliminary hearings were held. The hearing of the case is scheduled for September 7, 2023.

According to the prosecution, the prosecutor’s office of the city of Sumgayit received information that on April 29, Farid Bakarov (born 2016) died in the Sumgayit city children’s hospital. During the preliminary investigation, grounds for suspicion were revealed that during a sambo training in one of the schools in the city of Sumgayit, Mehman Khalilov (born 1994) inflicted numerous injuries on his ward Farid Bakarov, from which the latter died.

Based on the collected evidence, M. Khalilov was charged under Articles 120.2.4 and 120.2.9 of the Criminal Code, the court chose a preventive measure in the form of arrest against him. In fact, the prosecutor’s office of the city of Sumgayit initiated a criminal case under article 126.3 of the Criminal Code. Mehman Khalilov was detained as a suspect.
