The electronic security service appealed to citizens in connection with hacking in WhatsApp

In recent days, there have been massive cases of hacking of user accounts in WhatsApp and other applications. Report informs, this is stated in the appeal to the citizens of the Electronic Security Service under the Ministry of Digital Development and Transport of Azerbaijan.

As a result of a preliminary investigation conducted by the agency, it was found that the interception at the level of international SMS operators of OTP confirmation codes sent to users became the cause of the incident. Currently, the Electronic Security Service continues the investigation together with the relevant departments.

The Service urged citizens to be sure to activate the two-step verification function for their accounts on social networks, email, instant messaging applications, and other online platforms: “Instructions for activating the two-step verification function for some applications widely used by citizens can be found, by clicking on the link,” the statement said.
