Address by the President to the participants of the 33rd meeting of the Coordination Council of Prosecutors General of the CIS

President of the Republic of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev sent an appeal to the participants of the 33rd meeting of the Coordination Council of Prosecutors General of the member states of the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS), which took place on September 15 in Baku, oxu.az reports with reference to AZERTAC. The appeal states:

“Dear participants of the event!

I cordially welcome you to the 33rd meeting of the Coordination Council of Prosecutors General of the member states of the Commonwealth of Independent States taking place in Baku.

As an active member of the CIS, Azerbaijan considers it important to increase efforts aimed at further strengthening this organization. The protection of security and stability within the CIS and the further strengthening of cooperation are important.

Dear guests, the rule of law, the protection of human rights and freedoms constitute the highest goal of any rule of law state. From this point of view, the prosecutor’s office plays an exceptional role in ensuring and strengthening law and order and the fight against crime.

Transnational organized crime poses a serious threat to the social, economic and political stability of every state. At a time when global and regional threats are growing in the modern world, prosecutors of the CIS member states face new and complex challenges. These threats require increased international law enforcement capacity, joint efforts to neutralize illegal networks, prevent traditional and new types of crimes, including terrorism, drug trafficking, human trafficking, corruption, cybercrime, money laundering, etc.

I am confident that your joint efforts will allow us to promptly respond to the negative processes of our time and ensure reliable protection of our states and citizens.

I believe that today’s meeting of the Coordination Council of Prosecutors General of the CIS member states will give impetus to the reliable protection of human rights and freedoms in our region, to unite efforts in the fight against all forms of crime and to more effectively implement mutual cooperation.

I convey my best wishes to you and wish you success in the work of the meeting.”
