Officials accused of smuggling arrested

Officials accused of smuggling have been arrested in Azerbaijan, APA reports citing information distributed by the press service of the Prosecutor General’s Office.

The Main Department for Combating Corruption under the Prosecutor General’s Office continues the preliminary investigation into the criminal case received from the State Customs Committee on the illegal actions of officials involved in smuggling.
Based on the collected preliminary evidence, Ali Ibrahimov, Parvin Dursunaliyev and Mansur Mehdiyev were held accountable under Articles 206.3.2 and 206.3.3 of the Criminal Code (smuggling committed by a group of persons by prior agreement and by an official using his official position); based on the petition of the investigator and the submission of the prosecutor who carried out the procedural management of the preliminary investigation, the Binagadi District Court chose a preventive measure in the form of arrest against them.

Operational investigative measures to identify other participants in these crimes are ongoing.
