Cyberattack on government agencies: hackers broke into the databases of the Ministry of Health and the Ministry of Education of Azerbaijan

The State Security Service of Azerbaijan is investigating a high-profile case of illegal access to the databases of several structures, including the Ministry of Health (e-health.gov.az) and the Ministry of Science and Education (miq.edu.az), oxu.az reports. On September 11, 2024, the Sabail District Court of Baku held a hearing on the case of J. Dunyamaliyev, accused under Articles 271.3 (illegal access to a computer system), 272.3 (illegal seizure of computer information) and 273-1.4.2 (illegal interference with a computer system or computer information) of the Criminal Code.

The court extended the suspect’s arrest for 2 months.

It is noted that a group of hackers led by J. Dunyamalyev illegally gained access to the databases e-health.gov.az, miq.edu.az and others, took possession of the personal data of Azerbaijani citizens and transferred them to special servers at their disposal. Then they tried to sell this information through anonymous pages created on the TikTok social network and the Telegram messenger.

To attract the attention of potential buyers, hackers published personal data of famous people in commercials, claiming that they could sell information about any citizen.

The activities of the hacker group were stopped, access to the data they collected was blocked.
