Police detain persons who appropriated money from elderly and single citizens

Three persons have been detained in Azerbaijan for fraudulently appropriating money from elderly and single citizens. Among those detained are citizens of Ukraine, APA reports with reference to the Ministry of Internal Affairs.

It is reported that the police continue operations on the fact that elderly people were called on their home phones and informed that their close relatives had an accident and urgently needed money to provide assistance. After that, the callers took possession of the financial resources of these elderly people.

As a result of the activities carried out by the employees of the Khazar District Police Department, Seymur Akhmedov, citizens of Ukraine Yevgen Durkin and Vitaliy Kostyuk, who were involved in these illegal actions, were detained. It was established that the detainees arrived at addresses to which they were directed by people with whom they had established contact on the social network Telegram, and reported that an accident had occurred with close relatives of elderly people living there, and demanded money.

As a result of these illegal actions, 6 citizens suffered damages in the amount of 27,200 dollars and 25,000 manats. After receiving money from the victims, the detainees transferred it to the customers’ bank cards or to their cryptocurrency accounts.

The investigation into the facts is ongoing. The court has chosen a preventive measure in the form of arrest for the detainees.
