TikTok fraudster deceived 181 people

A hearing was held in the Baku Court of Grave Crimes under the chairmanship of Judge Vugar Guliyev on the case of Togrul Kerimov, a previously convicted fraudster who swindled large sums of money from 181 people by promising to employ them as sailors, oxu.az reports. The trial heard the testimonies of witnesses and victims.

Thus, the Baku police received numerous complaints from citizens who became victims of fraud on the TikTok social network. The perpetrators swindled money from gullible users by posting tempting ads about “high-paying jobs”.

During the investigation, officers of the 18th police department of the Narimanov district detained a suspect in a series of fraudulent actions – 36-year-old resident of the capital Togrul Kerimov, who has a previous conviction. It turned out that T. Kerimov presented himself on social networks as a representative of a large Turkish company engaged in maritime transportation in Baku, and promised to employ citizens in a highly paid position. Trusting applicants came to his office, where they were tricked into giving them money under various pretexts – allegedly for the preparation of documents, certificates, organizational expenses. In total, 181 people suffered from his actions.

A criminal case was initiated against T. Kerimov under the article “Fraud” of the Criminal Code, a preventive measure in the form of arrest was chosen. The collected materials were sent to the Baku Court of Grave Crimes for consideration.
