Those who deliberately and seriously damage the ecosystem in Azerbaijan will face up to 15 years in prison

Deliberate actions that cause large-scale, long-term and serious damage to the ecological system may be punished by imprisonment for 10 to 15 years, APA reports. This was reflected in the amendment to the Criminal Code approved by President Ilham Aliyev.

Under the new Article 104-1 (Ecocide) added to the Criminal Code, the deliberate mass destruction of plant or animal species, poisoning of the atmosphere, soil, or water resources, or any other actions that harm the ecosystem will be punishable by imprisonment for a period of 10 to 15 years if these actions cause an ecological disaster or create a real threat of an ecological disaster.
