Meeting on preparation of new political prisoners

Chaired by Judge Anar Ibrahimli in Khachmaz District Court held a preparatory meeting on the criminal case of journalists and 4 persons who are accused in Guba events. According to APA, the defense submitted a petition to change the measure of restraint in the form of arrest, which was not satisfied. The case hearing is scheduled for December 19.

Arrested on the case a Chairman of the Guba municipality Elkhan Aliyev, Executive Director of the TV channel “Khayal” Vugar Gonagov, Editor in Chief of TV channel Zaur Guliyev, Zakir Mammadov and Gulaga Aliyev are accused under article 233 (organization of actions that lead to mass confrontation, and participation in them), and article 309.2 (exceeding their authority) of the Criminal Code. Mukhtar Alakbarov also charged under articles 186.2.2 (deliberate destruction or damage to property), 233 (organization of actions leading to the violation of public order or active participation in such actions) and 315.2 (crime against control) of the Criminal Code of AR.

1 March current year in Guba was held protest action to demand the resignation of the Chief of Executive power Rauf Gabibov. The action was accompanied by clashes and violence. It was burned a house of the Head of Executive power Rauf Gabibov and auxiliary buildings of the executive authority.
