Prevented attempt to put into circulation counterfeit dollars

Interior Ministry’s Main Organized Crime Department has prevented an attempt to put into circulation large numbers of counterfeit U.S. dollars in Azerbaijan. Interior Ministry’s press service told APA that the main department received operational information that 36-year old Kurdamir resident Elshan Osmanov obtained counterfeit U.S. dollars and is going to sell them.

As a result of the search operations, Osmanov was caught red-handed while selling 320 counterfeit $ 100 banknotes for 12 000 U.S. dollars 32,000 fake dollars were seized from him as material evidence.

He said in his testimony that he brought counterfeit dollars to Baku from abroad to put them in circulation. It was revealed that counterfeit banknotes were professionally prepared.

The criminal case has been launched on the fact. The source of counterfeit money is being investigated.
