In Azerbaijan, in the first half of 2024, the number of road accidents has decreased significantly compared to last year. Report was stated by the chief inspector of the public relations department of the Main Directorate of State Traffic Police of the Ministry of Internal Affairs, police lieutenant colonel Mubariz Agayev.

He said that in the first half of the year the number of registered road accidents decreased by 99 cases or 12.7% compared to the same period last year, to 681. During this period, 333 people died in road accidents and 598 people were injured, which is 54 and 71 case is less in annual terms. Among the main causes of road accidents, the police representative named the facts of driving at high speed, driving into oncoming traffic and violating the rules of overtaking.

The State Border Service and the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Azerbaijan conducted a joint operation against an organized criminal group involved in drug smuggling from Iran for sale in the country, Report informs citing the State Border Service. On July 16, 2024, on the official territory of the Goradiz border detachment, a resident of the Gazakh region, Rasulov Kamil Sattar oglu (born 1984), was detained while attempting to smuggle 17 kg of marijuana into the country from Iran.

In cooperation with the Ministry of Internal Affairs, Rasulov’s accomplices, who acted with him as part of an organized crime group engaged in smuggling and drug trafficking, were identified and detained.

They are residents of the Garadagh district Iskenderov Elchin Aliaga oglu (born 1982), Iskenderov Gyulaga Aliaga oglu (born 1985), Saryev Taleh Babakerim oglu (born 1989) and a resident of the Gazakh region Rasulov Kamil Sattar oglu (1984 g.r.).

On July 17, 2024, police officers solved 40 crimes registered on the territory of Azerbaijan, and 14 crimes that remained unsolved from previous years, APA reports citing the press service of the Ministry of Internal Affairs.

In the first half of 2024, the State Tax Service under the Ministry of Economy opened 432 criminal cases, APA-Economics reports with reference to the Service; during the reporting period, 17.5 million manats were reimbursed to the state budget.

During the reporting period, 42 criminal cases were discontinued, charges were brought against 33 people and 27 criminal cases were sent to the courts, the preliminary investigation of 69 criminal cases was completed, and a preventive measure in the form of arrest was chosen against 6 people.

In 22 cases, the investigation of which has been completed, appropriate decisions have been made under Art. 40.4 of the Criminal Procedure Code, and during the preliminary investigation, damages in the amount of 2.6 million manats were compensated to the state budget. In addition, in the investigated criminal cases, damages in the amount of 13.3 million manat were provided.
