Drug smuggling prevented

Azerbaijan’s border guards have detained a gang engaging in the smuggling of illegal drugs from Iran to Azerbaijan.

As a result of the operative search actions taken at a frontier post in Azerbaijan’s Fuzuli district September 8, 2016 Rashad Mammadov and Bakhtiyar Isayev were detained while attempting to smuggle 535 grams of heroin and 460 grams of hashish resin to the country from Iran.

Sumgayit city resident Aliyev Ramil, another person affiliated with them, was also arrested.

As a result of the measures taken by the Coast Guard of State Border Service in a settlement of the country’s Lankaran district, local residents Novruz Babashov and Dadash Babashov were were detained while smuggling drugs from Iran to Azerbaijan over the Caspian Sea.

The trespassers, ignoring demands of border guards and trying to escape by motorcycle, were detained thanks to vigilance of the employees of the State Border Service.

912 grams of heroin in a package was seized from the motorcycle of Novruz Babashov.

 The investigation is underway into both cases.
