Detained false journalist-extortionist

A man who introduced himself as a journalist and extorted money from officials was detained, oxu.az reports with reference to the press service of the country’s Prosecutor General’s Office.

Thus, the Main Department for Combating Corruption under the Prosecutor General carried out operational-search measures in connection with the fact that Bayram Hajiyev, posing as a media employee, in exchange for the non-distribution of damaging information about the director of the healthcare institution on Facebook and the channels sizintv.az, Vetendash Bayram Hacıyev of the YouTube video platform demanded a certain amount of money from him.

B.Hajiyev was caught red-handed while receiving funds from senior officials of other medical institutions through their relatives in the amount of 2,000 manats in the Narimanov district of Baku.

In connection with these facts, on February 3, 2022, a criminal case was initiated at the Main Anti-Corruption Department under the Prosecutor General under the relevant article of the Criminal Code of Azerbaijan. B. Gadzhiev was charged as a defendant under article 182.2.2 (repeated extortion) of the Criminal Code of the Republic of Azerbaijan, a measure of restraint in the form of detention was chosen against him by a court decision.

Investigative measures are being taken to identify other victims of the unlawful actions of the accused.
