Fraudulent businessman Makhmudov appeared in court

The Baku Court for Grave Crimes  held a preparatory hearing on a criminal case against businessman Maksud Makhmudov detained in Ukraine and extradited to Azerbaijan, haqqin.az reports.

At a meeting chaired by Judge Faig Ganiev, the personal data of the defendant were clarified. Further, the accused Makhmudov told the court that he was married, but he decided on a divorce after a trip to Ukraine. He also said that he had health problems and asked the court to create conditions for his treatment. The court stated that in this regard, a request would be sent to the Baku detention center.

The hearing of the case is scheduled for February 14, 2022.

Thus, M. Mahmudov, who was put on the international wanted list by the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Azerbaijan in January 2020 under Article 178.3.2 (fraud committed with causing damage on a large scale) of the Criminal Code, was detained on the territory of Ukraine in July 2021. In September, he was brought from Ukraine to Azerbaijan and handed over to the investigation. Makhmudov is also charged under articles 183.2.2 (repeated theft of valuables) and 182.2.2 (extortion by blackmail) of the Criminal Code. Among the 90 victims of the criminal actions of businessman Maksud Mahmudov are singers Afet Farmangyzy and Vasif Maharramli.
