Officials charged with bribery acquitted

Officials accused of bribery have been sentenced in Azerbaijan, the report.az information internet portal reports.

The judgements of Rasim Allahverdiyev, who held the post of chairman of the Khoshbulag municipality of the Dashkesan region, Shahbaz Mehdiyev, the head of the abolished Dashkesan regional department of the State Committee for Land and Cartography and the specialist of this department, Vugar Mammadov, were read out in the Ganja Court for Grave Crimes.

R. Allahverdiyev was sentenced to 8 years in prison. The court acquitted the other two persons. Sh. Mehdiyev was released in the courtroom, and police supervision was removed from V. Mammadov.

The above persons were arrested in February 2021 by the General Department for Combating Corruption under the Prosecutor General. During the investigation, suspicions arose that all three conspired to sell a land plot in the village of Khoshbulag in violation of the law by forging documents, for which they received a bribe of 25,400 manats.

On the basis of the evidence collected in the case, R. Allahverdiyev, Sh. Mehdiyev and V. Mammadov were charged under Articles 308.2 (abuse of official powers that entailed grave consequences), 311.3.1 (bribery by a group of persons by prior agreement), 311.3.2 ( giving a bribe by a group of persons by prior agreement), 311.3.3 (giving a bribe by a group of persons by prior agreement), 311.3.3 and 313 (forgery) of the Criminal Code of the Azerbaijan Republic.

By the decision of the court, R. Allahverdiyev and Sh. Mehdiyev were subjected to a measure of restraint in the form of detention, and in relation to V. Mammadov – police supervision.
