Company heads arrested

Heads of companies have been arrested in Azerbaijan, oxu.az reports with reference to the press service of the Prosecutor General’s Office.

Based on numerous appeals received by the hotline of the Main Anti-Corruption Department under the Prosecutor General in connection with the illegal actions of officials of the housing construction cooperative (HCC) Sahil-S İnsaat, a criminal case was initiated and an investigation was conducted.

The investigation had reasonable suspicions that Talei Alaverdiyev, who previously held the position of chairman of the housing cooperative Sahil-S İnşaat, entered into a preliminary conspiracy with the director of GG Company LLC Panah Kerimov and embezzled a large amount of money from citizens who applied for the purchase of apartments located in the constructed HCC in the Baku village of Yeni Gunashli, residential area A-B. Despite the presence of legitimate homeowners, the scammers drew up fictitious contracts and issued financial certificates.

On the basis of sufficient evidence collected in the case, T. Alaverdiyev and P. Kerimov were charged under Articles 178.3.2 (fraud committed with infliction of large damage), 308.2 (abuse of official powers, entailing grave consequences) and 313 (forgery) of the Criminal Code AR. The criminal investigation is currently ongoing.
