An attempt to smuggle a psychotropic substance on a large scale was prevented

Azerbaijan’s customs officers prevented an attempt to smuggle a psychotropic substance on a large scale, Trend.az news agency reported citing the State Customs Committee.

Thus, on April 26, 2022, a Volvo vehicle with state license plate 72AA511/72AA512, heading to Turkey through the territory of the Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic with a cargo of ferrosilicon, was checked at the Julfa checkpoint of the state border using an X-ray device.

In connection with the images of water and fuel tanks that aroused suspicion, a major inspection of the vehicle was carried out. When examined in specially created compartments in the tanks, the psychotropic substance methamphetamine with a total weight of 307 kilograms 900 grams was found.

It is known that methamphetamine is included in the “I List of psychotropic substances, the circulation of which is prohibited in the territory of the Republic of Azerbaijan.”

On this fact, the investigation department of the State Customs Committee of the Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic initiated a criminal case in accordance with Article 206 (smuggling) of the Criminal Code of Azerbaijan.
