Baku hosts an international conference on fluctuations in the level of the Caspian Sea

Baku is hosting an international conference on “Caspian sea level fluctuations in the context of climate change, forecasts and adaptation measures”, organized by the Ministry of Ecology and Natural Resources with the support of the United Nations Development Program, 1news.az news portal reports.

The conference is attended by specialists from the Caspian countries, representatives of international organizations and foreign experts.

Minister of Ecology and Natural Resources Mukhtar Babayev addressed the conference participants in a video format.

He touched upon the urgent problems of the Caspian Sea, the measures taken by Azerbaijan to solve these problems, the national plan and plans for regional cooperation, the importance of regional cooperation on the example of the Framework Convention for the Protection of the Environment of the Caspian Sea.

The conference discusses current and expected fluctuations in the level of the Caspian Sea, the definition of national and regional events taking into account climate change, issues of expanding cooperation.

Along with the problems of the Caspian Sea, the results of the 56th session of the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change are being discussed at the 56th session of the Subsidiary Body for Advice on Scientific and Technological Aspects of the Framework Convention on Climate Change in Bonn, views are being exchanged on the increase in the pace of climate change in the last decade, research on forecasting expected fluctuations.
