Prosecutor General’s Office: 7 servicemen and a civilian arrested

A criminal group consisting of 7 servicemen of the State Border Service (SBS) and others were exposed on July 21 when they tried to transport more than 90 kg of a drug across the border, APA reports.

On this fact, a criminal case was initiated under Art. 206.3.2, 206.3.3, 234.4.1, 234.4.3, 240.3.2 and 318.2 of the Criminal Code of Azerbaijan. The preliminary investigation was entrusted to the Investigation Department of the Prosecutor General’s Office.

Through numerous investigative actions, it was established that the servicemen of the State Border Service Tural Osmanov, Shamil Abbasov, Gabil Najafov, Kamran Jafarov, Nurlan Gasimov, Seymur Azadkhanzade, Ilkin Gasimzade and others, using their official position, together with a civilian Hikmet Khalili and others, united to a group for covert smuggling of a large consignment of narcotic drugs, psychotropic and potent substances from Iran for the purpose of sale.

In accordance with the agreed plan, 4 servicemen were detained by a border detachment at about 21:00 on July 20, when they were trying to take funds from a storage place. 94.3 kg of narcotic drugs (87.7 kg of marijuana, 7.6 kg of heroin, 40 methadone-198 tablets, 10 pieces each), a psychotropic substance (400 grams of methamphetamine) and a potent substance (12,465 pregobalin-150 tablets).

Based on the collected evidence, 7 servicemen and Hikmet Khalili were brought on July 22 as defendants under the indicated articles of the Criminal Code, and a preventive measure in the form of arrest was chosen against them by the decision of the Baku Military Court.
