Drug smuggling prevented

A border patrol serving in the border outpost near the village of Avash, Yardimli region, noticed two border violators from Iran, oxu.az reports citing the press center of the State Border Service of Azerbaijan.

The perpetrators managed to escape. At the scene, 5,025 grams of an opium-like drug and a PULSAR HELION 2 thermal imager were found and seized.

In addition, the border guards detained Ilgar Mammadov (born 1968), a previously convicted resident of the Agdam region. 5,780 grams of methamphetamine tablets and 695 grams of a narcotic substance similar to marijuana were found and confiscated from him.

The matter is under investigation.
