Prosecutor General’s Office on the incident with the grenade explosion

The Prosecutor General’s Office of Azerbaijan announced the opening of a criminal case in connection with the explosion of a grenade in the yard in the village of Pirshagi, haqqin.az reports.

So, on Tuesday night, August 23, 2022, the Sabunchu district prosecutor’s office received information about a grenade explosion in the courtyard of a private residential building located on the territory of the village.

Law enforcement agencies established reasonable suspicions that 39-year-old Intizam Najafov, having come to the house of his ex-wife, threatened to kill her family and threw a hand grenade into the courtyard of the house. The police officers who arrived at the scene of the incident held a preventive conversation with him, but he threw a second grenade into the yard.

As a result of the incident, no one was injured.

On this fact, a criminal case was initiated in the Sabunchu District Prosecutor’s Office under Articles 29, 120.2.4 (attempted murder with special cruelty or in a generally dangerous way), 29, 120.2.7 (attempted murder of two or more persons) and 228 (illegal acquisition, transfer , sale, storage, transportation and carrying of firearms, their components, ammunition, explosives and devices) of the Criminal Code of the Republic of Azerbaijan.

Intizam Najafov was detained as a suspect. The investigation is ongoing.
