The media will be able to complain to the Ombudsman about human rights violations

The range of organizations that can complain to the Commissioner for Human Rights (Ombudsman) about human rights violations is expanding, APA reports.

This was reflected in the draft law “On Amendments to the Constitutional Law of the Republic of Azerbaijan on the Commissioner for Human Rights (Ombudsman) of the Republic of Azerbaijan”, which was discussed today at a meeting of the Milli Majlis Committee on Legal Policy and State Building.

According to the project, with the consent of the person whose human rights have been violated, the media, trade unions, initiative groups of citizens, district committees of municipalities will also be able to appeal to the Ombudsman with a complaint. If it is not possible to obtain the consent of the person whose human rights have been violated (in the event of his death, incapacity, etc.), civil society institutions can file a complaint without obtaining consent.
