Azerbaijan expects European Court to make a fair decision

All the materials about the Armenian crimes committed against the Azerbaijani people have been submitted to the European Court, APA reports referring to Deputy Chairman of the Supreme Court of Azerbaijan Chingiz Askerov, who spoke at the conference “Armenia’s war crimes against the Azerbaijani people over the past 30 years”, organized by the Center for Social Research .

He noted that Azerbaijan defends its right in international courts: “We have been doing this since 2003. After the complaint “Chiragov and Others v. Armenia” was submitted to the European Court, the Azerbaijani state became more actively involved in these cases. In 2015, in the decision of the European Court of Justice in the case of Chiragov and Others v. Armenia, reference was made to the Hague Convention and the Charter, which reflect war crimes. In this text, for the first time in history, the ruling of the international court reflects the fact that Armenia occupied part of the territory of Azerbaijan.”

Chingiz Askerov stressed that in October 2020, the Azerbaijani state filed an interstate claim with the European Court: “In January 2021, Azerbaijan submitted a large interstate claim, which, of course, details the actions constituting war crimes committed by Armenia. I am sure that we will win here too, and the European Court will make a fair decision on the payment of compensation by Armenia.”
