State Security Service carries out arrests in Nakhchivan

The Sabail District Court of Baku city has considered the petition of the investigator on the criminal case of the head of the department of payments and regulation of customs tariffs of the State Customs Committee of the Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic (NAR) Mansur Askerov, initiated by the State Security Service of Azerbaijan, reports oxu.az.

On November 24, 2022, the court decided to select a preventive measure in the form of arrest for a period of four months in relation to M. Askerov.

The investigation of the criminal case revealed particularly large embezzlement in the committee. In particular, M. Askerov was charged with embezzlement of public funds in the amount of 132 million manats, committed by a group of persons by prior agreement.

It follows from the materials of the case that the officials of the State Customs Committee of the NAR, in addition to the general electronic system in which state customs duties are registered, created another unofficial system of fees for importing goods without registration.

The investigation is ongoing.
