More than 95% of drugs imported into Azerbaijan from abroad were delivered to our country from Iran

More than 95% of drugs imported to Azerbaijan from abroad were delivered to our country from Iran, APA reports referring to the speech of Deputy Prime Minister Ali Ahmadov at a meeting held in the Cabinet of Ministers to discuss the activities carried out by the media within the framework of the fight against drug trafficking and addiction.

Speaking at the meeting on November 25, 2022, Chairman of the State Commission Ali Ahmadov said that given that drug addiction and drug trafficking are the most serious and dangerous global problems faced by modern society, the fight against drug addiction and drug trafficking is put on the first plan at the state level in our country. Thus, over the ten months of this year, law enforcement agencies have achieved positive results in the fight against illicit trafficking in narcotic drugs, psychotropic substances and their precursors. As a result of the complex operational-search activities, in general, 9,564 criminal facts were revealed, more than 5 tons of narcotic drugs and psychotropic substances were seized from illegal circulation. More than 95 percent of the mentioned narcotic drugs of foreign origin were brought to Azerbaijan by smuggling and other illegal means from the territory of the Islamic Republic of Iran.
