Official bribe-taker accused of aiding smuggling

The criminal case of an official who created conditions for smuggling into the territory of Azerbaijan has been sent to court, oxu.az reports with reference to the press service of the General Prosecutor’s Office of the Republic of Azerbaijan.

In the course of an investigation conducted by the Main Directorate for Combating Corruption under the Prosecutor General, reasonable suspicions were identified that the chief inspector of the scanning and technical control department of the Main Customs Directorate for Air Transport of the State Customs Committee (SCC) Jamil Ismayilov in August-October 2022 received from groups of people bribe for the transportation of gold jewelry without collecting customs duties at the airport.

The official was charged under Articles 32.5, 206.3.1, 32.5, 206.3.2 (complicity in smuggling committed by a group of persons by prior conspiracy repeatedly), 308.2 (abuse of official authority resulting in grave consequences) and 311.3.2 (repeated bribery) of the Criminal Code AR. By a court decision, a measure of restraint in the form of arrest was chosen against him.

The criminal case was sent for consideration to the Baku Court for Grave Crimes.
