Trial of an employee of the EU Delegation to Azerbaijan begins

A preparatory court hearing on the criminal case against Zarifa Abbasova, who worked as an accountant at the European Union Delegation to Azerbaijan, has begun, Report news agency reported. At the trial, chaired by the judge of the Baku Grave Crimes Court Ahmed Guliyev, the personal data of the accused were clarified. Then the prosecutor Orkhan Samedov suggested that the case be referred to the court. It was decided to transfer the criminal case to the court.

The trial is scheduled for May 11, 2023.

It is noted that during the investigation, reasonable suspicions arose that Zarifa Abbasova, while working in this position in 2017-2022, cashed out the funds in the bank account of the representative office, and also transferred funds to her salary at different times through false payment orders. map. Thus, she appropriated more than 980 thousand manats.

Zarifa Abbasova has been charged under Articles 179.4 (large-scale embezzlement), 308.2 (abuse of power with grave consequences) and 313 (official forgery) of the Criminal Code of the Republic of Azerbaijan.
