“Climbers” who committed thefts worth 2 million manats will appear in court

A cassation appeal has been filed again against the verdict against Javid Suleymanov and Akhmed Akhmedov, accused of committing a series of thefts worth 2 million manats in Baku, oxu.az reports. The cassation will be considered under the chairmanship of Supreme Court Judge Tair Kazimov. The preparatory meeting is scheduled for December 13, 2023.

According to the indictment, A. Akhmedov and J. Suleymanov robbed the apartments of the former chief infectious disease specialist of the Ministry of Health, the former head of the department of infectious diseases of the Azerbaijan Medical University, Jalal Isaev, and the ex-midfielder of the Azerbaijani national football team, Jeyhun Sultanov. Among the victims is also Vusal Mirzoyev, the son of Major General Sahib Mirzoyev, who held senior positions in the police for many years. From the materials of the criminal case it follows that burglaries using climbing equipment were uncovered after the general’s son became a victim of the criminals.

According to the indictment, V. Mirzoev suffered damage in the amount of 167,000 manats. It was established that as a result of the crimes, the victims suffered material damage amounting to about 2 million manats.

The Baku Grave Crimes Court sentenced Javid Suleymanov to nine years in prison, and Akhmed Akhmedov to eight years. According to the decision of the Baku Court of Appeal, the sentence of J. Suleymanov was reduced by one year – to eight years, and for A. Akhmedov – by three years – to five. In other parts the sentence was left unchanged.
