Professor arrested in courtroom

The Baku Court of Grave Crimes has completed the trial of the criminal case of Rovshan Valiyev, a professor at the National Academy of Sciences of Azerbaijan, former director of the Center for Combating International Terrorism and Corruption, accused of large-scale fraud, haqqin.az reports. At the meeting chaired by Judge Sabukha Huseynov, the judgement was read out, according to which Rovshan Veliyev will spend the next 6 years in prison. He was arrested in the courtroom.

According to the indictment, R. Veliyev made false promises to several persons and thus embezzled more than 80 thousand manats.

It should be noted that in 2007, Veliyev was prosecuted for forgery of documents and abuse of power.
