The trial of foreigners who planned an assassination attempt on a foreign government official during his visit to Baku begins

The Baku Court of Serious Crimes has received a criminal case against foreign citizens Yazdan Shenas Khales Hossein Ramezanali and Javidankhelan Ehsan Hossein, the preliminary investigation of which has been completed by the State Security Service of the Republic of Azerbaijan. APA reports that the trial in the criminal case has been transferred to judge Novruz Kerimov. The date of the preparatory court hearing is set for January 17, 2024.

These citizens are accused of preparing a terrorist act in the city of Baku during the next visit of an official, a foreign citizen, to Azerbaijan. These persons were detained on May 31, 2023 as a result of operational activities carried out by the State Security Service, and were prosecuted under Articles 28, 277 of the Criminal Code of the Azerbaijan Republic, which provides for punishment in the form of imprisonment for a term of fourteen to twenty years or life imprisonment.
