The ex-head of the Guba-Khachmaz education department is accused of receiving a bribe of 53 thousand manats

The former head of the Guba-Khachmaz regional education department, Rufat Hajiyev, was arrested on charges of receiving a bribe in the amount of 53 thousand manats, Report informs citing the press service of the Prosecutor General’s Office.

It is reported that a criminal case against Hajiyev was initiated at the Main Anti-Corruption Directorate. The basis for the investigation was information received about Hajiyev’s illegal actions in the positions of head of the Guba regional education department (now abolished) in 2017-2022, and head of the Guba-Khachmaz regional education department, which he held until November 27, 2023. As a result of the investigation, reasonable suspicions were revealed that Hajiyev had repeatedly received large bribes from various individuals for the extension of an employment contract, appointment as a school director, as well as for promises not to conduct inspections in schools and provide general patronage. The total amount of bribes he received was 53 thousand manats.

Rufat Hajiyev has been charged under Articles 311.3.2 and 311.3.3 (repeated receipt of a large bribe) of the Criminal Code of the Azerbaijan Republic. By a court decision, a preventive measure in the form of arrest was chosen against Hajiyev, the investigation continues.
