Illegal smuggling of gold and jewelry from Turkey prevented

Employees of the Main Customs Directorate of Air Transport stopped an attempt to illegally smuggle a large amount of gold jewelry across the customs border. APA was informed about this by the Press and Public Relations Department of the State Customs Committee.

According to the information, two citizens of the Republic of Azerbaijan, who arrived on an Istanbul-Baku flight, handed over gold jewelry in 31 parcels to a person who was cleaning the toilet opposite the passport control point. The janitor hid the gold jewelry in question in a trash container and napkins.

During the inspection of garbage containers and napkins, gold jewelry with a total weight of 8 kilograms 400 grams was discovered.

The fact is under investigation.
