Statement by the Ombudsman on the 32nd anniversary of the Khojaly genocide

The Commissioner for Human Rights (Ombudsman) of the Republic of Azerbaijan, Sabina Aliyeva, issued a statement in connection with the 32nd anniversary of the Khojaly genocide. The Ombudsman’s Office told APA that the statement noted that the first political and legal assessment of the Khojaly genocide was given 30 years ago by the Azerbaijani parliament on the initiative of national leader Heydar Aliyev, and February 26 was declared Khojaly Genocide Day.

The statement calls on international organizations and the world community to give a legal assessment of the Khojaly genocide, which is considered one of the largest massacres of the 20th century, and to bring to justice those responsible for this terrible crime against humanity.
