A large consignment of drugs imported from Iran was detained in Azerbaijan, Trend reports. Information about this was disseminated by the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Azerbaijan. In particular, it is noted that police officers continue intensive measures to combat drug trafficking in the country. During the next event held by the Main Directorate for Combating Drugs of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Azerbaijan in the Neftchala region, a previously convicted resident of the region, Sadig Alekperov, was detained, who organized illegal drug trafficking under the guise of fishing activities.

During a search of the detainee and in a building specially prepared for hiding drugs near the house where he lived, 87 kilograms of dried marijuana, the composition of which was enriched with psychotropic substances, was found. He planned to deliver these drugs to individuals for financial gain.

A criminal case has been initiated regarding this fact, and a preventive measure in the form of detention has been chosen against the detainee. Operational and investigative measures are ongoing,” the department said in a statement.
