Sentence passed to those accused of murdering the vice-rector of a Baku university

A verdict has been issued to Dayanet Guliyev, Samir Guliyev and Mushfig Atakishiyev, who served as the rector of this university, accused of murdering the former vice-rector of Tefekkur University Tariel Akhmedov, Report informs. The decision was announced at a trial chaired by the judge of the Baku Court of Serious Crimes, Siyavush Hajiyev. The court sentenced Mushfig Atakishiyev to 14 years 6 months, Dayanet Guliyev to 14 years 6 months and Samir Guliyev to 14 years 6 months in prison.

Previously, the state prosecutor asked for a sentence of 15 years in prison for each.

It is noted that according to the investigation materials in the criminal case initiated on the premeditated murder of the vice-rector for science and education of Tefekkur University Tariel Akhmedov on September 16, 2011, in April 2023, Dayanat Guliyev was brought into the investigation as a defendant under the relevant article of the Criminal Code. According to the investigation, Mushfig Atakishiev, who held the position of rector of the university at the time of the crime, fearing that T. Akhmedov would have a significant impact on his business reputation and would pose a danger to his tenure as rector, ordered his murder to his relative Dayanet Guliyev, who monetary reward committed the murder together with his fellow villager Samir Guliyev.
