The court made a decision regarding athletes accused of contract kidnapping

The Supreme Court has completed a hearing on the cassation appeal against the verdict against Niyameddin Kazimli and Farah Rasulova, found guilty of kidnapping in Baku, oxu.az reports with reference to pravda.az. At the trial, chaired by Judge Aziz Seyidov, a decision was announced according to which the complaint was not satisfied.

The Baku Grave Crimes Court sentenced the members of the group, among whom were also world and European champions. Thus, Elchin Guliyev was sentenced to imprisonment for a period of 11 years, Vasif Allahverdiyev – 10, Niyameddin Kazimli, Shaig Huseynov and Fagan Eminoglu – 8 years and 6 months each.

Athlete Farah Rasulova was given a suspended sentence with a probationary period. The person who ordered the kidnapping, Aygun Abbasova, was sentenced to 5 years in prison. However, since she has a minor child in her care, the punishment will come into force when he reaches 14 years of age. The Baku Court of Appeal did not satisfy their appeal. They were charged with kidnapping a resident of the Khatai district of the capital, Huseyn Asgarov. It is known that the man owed Aygun Abbasova (born 1970) 25,000 manats and was unable to repay the money on time. Then the woman turned to a group of athletes and promised them a reward of 10,000 manats if they helped return the money. Members of the group forced Askerov to get into the car and took him to Abbasova’s country house in the village of Pirshagi. There they beat the man and demanded that he pay 30,000 manats instead of 25,000.

As a result of the operation carried out by the Ministry of Internal Affairs, the kidnappers were detained and the hostage was released. A criminal case was initiated against the attackers under Article 144 (kidnapping) of the Criminal Code of the Republic of Azerbaijan.
