A former pantomime theater accountant sentenced for embezzling a large sum of money

The judicial investigation into the case of former accountant of the Azerbaijan State Mime Theater Ayten Kerimova, accused of embezzlement of a large sum of money, has been completed, oxu.az reports with reference to Qafqazinfo. At the last meeting in the Baku Court of Serious Crimes, the verdict was announced. A. Kerimova was found guilty of abuse of power and misappropriation of a large sum of money and was sentenced to 5 years and 3 months in prison.

However, the court took into account the fact that A. Kerimova has two young children, and a payment of 100 thousand manats for the damage she caused. For this reason, Article 70 (Conditional sentence) of the Criminal Code of the Azerbaijan Republic was applied to the woman.

Ayten Kerimova worked as an accountant of the above-mentioned theater from 2019 to 2023. Her activities were investigated by the Main Anti-Corruption Directorate under the Prosecutor General. It was established that as a result of the accountant’s illegal actions, the state suffered damage in the amount of 327,000 manats.

The Ministry of Culture of Azerbaijan was recognized as the victim in the case.
