Candidate nominations for Parliamentary elections in Azerbaijan may start from today

In connection with the extraordinary elections to the Milli Mejlis, citizens with passive suffrage can start nominating candidates for single-mandate constituencies on their own initiative, voter initiative groups, political parties, and blocs of political parties, APA reports.

According to articles 8.1, 146.1 and 146.4 of the Election Code, after the official publication of the Decree of the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan on the appointment of elections, citizens with the right to vote passively on their own initiative, initiative groups of voters, political parties, blocks of political parties with one mandate may start nominating candidates for constituencies.

According to Articles 53.6 and 54.9 of the Election Code, district election commissions issue signature sheets to the candidate or his authorized representative, as well as to the authorized representatives of the political party and bloc of political parties, starting from the day of the adoption of the decision confirming the candidacy. According to Articles 56, 57 and 147 of the Election Code, citizens of the Republic of Azerbaijan who have reached the age of 18 and have active voting rights, candidates, political parties, blocs of political parties, start collecting voter signatures for the protection of candidates after the decision of the district election commission approving the candidacy for deputy.

It should be noted that on June 28, President Ilham Aliyev signed the decree “On the dissolution of the sixth convocation of the Milli Majlis of the Republic of Azerbaijan and the appointment of early elections to the Milli Majlis of the Republic of Azerbaijan.” According to the decree, the extraordinary elections to the Milli Majlis are scheduled for September 1, 2024.
