The trial of the former officer accused of embezzling more than 24 million manat from the Defense Ministry continued

The trial of former officer Zakhid Niftaliyev (Shlyapa Zakhid), accused of embezzling 24,234,000 manat from the Defense Ministry, continued in the Baku Court of Grave Crimes, oxu.az reports. At the hearing, chaired by Judge Novruz Kerimov, Ali Adygozalov, Z. Niftaliyev’s lawyer, filed several motions with the court.

According to the defense attorney, AtaBank Chairman of the Board Dayanat Guliyev is one of the persons involved in this case. In addition, as the lawyer stated, during the investigation, AtaBank treasurer Barat Heydarov told Z. Niftaliyev that he had taken the specified amount of money from the cash register. A. Adygezalov considered it appropriate to summon him to court for questioning.

The prosecutor noted that the materials provided by the investigative body were substantiated, so the motions should be rejected. The court decided to postpone the consideration of these motions to the next stage.

In addition, during the trial, a representative of AtaBank filed a civil claim against Z. Niftaliyev for 24,234,000 manats. The court accepted the claim.

Then the prosecutor read out the indictment. The defendant Zakhid Niftaliyev did not admit guilt and stated that he did not accept the charges brought against him. He also stated that he wanted to familiarize himself with the materials of the criminal case.

The next court hearing is scheduled for September 25, 2024.
