Political prisoners of Azerbaijan do not hope for mercy of nature

Political prisoner Fahri Iliyasov pardoned theologian from Ganja, said that there were no grounds for his prosecution, he had not committed hooliganism and had not had a weapon, and therefore he was not guilty. Islamic Party of Azerbaijan, represented by the Deputy Chairman of the Political Affairs Haji Akif Heydarly also expressed its attitude to the pardon of their members, saying that they were innocent people.

Indeed, why would drug addicts and hooligans be pardoned if they were recently condemned?

“The state releases certain political prisoners only to avert attacks of international organizations, but then it arrests another ones, continuing thus its policy”, – said chairman of the Popular Front Party of Azerbaijan Ali Kerimli.

Director of the Institute for Peace and Democracy Leyla Yunus said that the IPD recognizes as political prisoners five others persons whose cases have not yet been completed. These are Nigar Yagublu, Muslims Mehdi Shainli, Sheikh Javid, Raghib Piraliyev and Sharafaddin Mahmudov.
