Accused of conspiring with Iranian intelligence agencies

On 9th June 2014 Baku Court of Grave Crimes held a preparatory meeting on the criminal case of Azerbaijani and Iranian citizens accused of conspiring with Iranian intelligence agencies, smuggling and other crimes, APA reports.

According to the judgment, Samir Hasanov (citizen of Azerbaijan) was sentenced to 13 years and Hangah Rauf Karimli (citizen of Iran) to 15 years in prison.

They were accused under articles 247 (high treason), 206 (smuggling) and 228 (illegal purchase and storage of fire-arms) of the Criminal Code, and had been arrested as a result of operational measures taken by the employees of the National Security Ministry (MNS).
