Employees of the Main Drug Control Department of the Interior Ministry of Azerbaijan seized 146 kg of drugs from circulation in September, APA reports citing the press service of the Interior Ministry.

It is reported that as a result, 20 more members of the drug network were detained, including people involved in smuggling drugs into the country.

More than 146 kg of drugs were seized during the operations.

Criminal cases have been opened on the facts, and by a court decision, a preventive measure in the form of arrest has been chosen for the detainees.

6 foreigners who attempted to violate the state border of Azerbaijan were detained, APA reports citing the State Border Service. On October 2, one citizen of the Islamic Republic of Iran was detained at the service station of the Khudat border detachment, on October 4, two citizens of the People’s Democratic Republic of Algeria, on October 3, two citizens of the Islamic Republic of Pakistan at the service station of the Shamkir border detachment, and on October 7, one citizen of the Syrian Arab Republic at the service station of the Nakhchivan separate border division.

During the investigation, it was established that the detainees intended to violate the state border and then emigrate to European countries.

Operational and investigative measures to identify the channel of illegal migration are ongoing.

The editor-in-chief of the qerar.az website Kamal Gurbanov has been arrested. He is suspected of extorting money from individuals through threats, oxu.az reports with reference to Qafqazinfo. The Main Directorate for Combating Organized Crime of the Ministry of Internal Affairs conducted an investigation based on the information received.

According to the investigation, K. Gurbanov, using his official position, demanded various sums of money from citizens, threatening otherwise to publish information on the website that discredited their honor and did not correspond to reality.

A criminal case has been opened on this fact under the relevant articles of the Criminal Code. K. Gurbanov has been brought to criminal responsibility, and a preventive measure in the form of arrest has been chosen for him. The investigation is ongoing.
