Azerbaijan extradited two individuals who were on the international wanted list to Romania and Luxembourg, oxu.az reports with reference to the press service of the Prosecutor General’s Office. The petitions of the competent authorities of the Grand Duchy of Luxembourg to extradite French citizen Cedric Michel (born in 1987), accused of committing economic crimes and put on the international wanted list, and the competent authorities of Romania to extradite Turkish citizen Oguz Atalay (born in 1975), accused of illegally transporting migrants by an organized criminal group and put on the international wanted list, were sent by the supervisory authority to the Baku Court of Grave Crimes for consideration.

It is noted that these individuals were identified in our country and a preventive measure in the form of arrest was chosen for them.

The trial of 19 officials accused of receiving large-scale bribes has ended, oxu.az reports. Today, the verdict was read out at the trial chaired by Judge Shalala Gasanova in the Baku Court of Grave Crimes. By the court’s decision, Ildyrym Mammadov was sentenced to 8 years and 6 months, Nazim Safarov – to 8 years and 4 months in prison.

The other defendants were deprived of the right to hold certain positions or engage in certain activities for 1 year.

An appeal has been filed against the verdict against the former head of the Executive Authority (EA) of the Kurdamir District Jeyhun Jafarov and other officials of the district, oxu.az reports. A preparatory hearing in the Shirvan Court of Appeal is scheduled for October 17. The complaint will be considered under the chairmanship of Judge Parviz Hajiyev.

Based on the evidence collected in the case, J. Jafarov, T. Novruzov and N. Kerimov were charged under Articles 308.2 (abuse of office, resulting in grave consequences), 311.3.1 (accepting a bribe by a group of persons by prior agreement), 311.3.2 (repeated acceptance of a bribe) and others of the Criminal Code (CC) of the Republic of Azerbaijan (AR). A preventive measure in the form of arrest was chosen against them.
According to the verdict of the Lankaran Court of Grave Crimes, J. Jafarov was found guilty of abuse of office, embezzlement of state property and bribery on an especially large scale and sentenced to eight years and six months in prison.

Taking into account the full compensation for damages in the criminal case, the Shirvan Court of Appeal reduced his prison term to six years, and the Supreme Court – to four years and six months.

A kidnapping case occurred in the Gadabay district, oxu.az reports. Thus, Alim Ismayilov kidnapped a girl who works as a teacher. During the operation carried out by police officers, A. Ismayilov was detained in the Yevlakh district.

The girl was handed over to her family. A criminal case has been initiated against A. Ismayilov. An investigation is underway on this fact.

It is noted that A. Ismayilov is the chief engineer of the Department of Public Utilities of the Executive Authority of the Gadabay District.

As a result of the activities carried out by the Sabirabad District Police Department, Ziya Aliyev was detained, who is suspected of embezzling more than 135,000 manat from a local resident, oxu.az reports with reference to the press service of the Ministry of Internal Affairs.

During the investigation, it was established that Z. Aliyev, having abused the trust of the victim, made false promises about creating a joint business and embezzled 135,150 manat.

A criminal case has been initiated on this fact, and a preventive measure in the form of arrest has been chosen for the detainee.
